1973 saw the birth of The Bradford Exchange and the beginning of a huge world market in collector's plates. Our pioneering mission to locate the finest collector's plates around the world, and bring news of them directly into collector's homes, was an immediate triumph.
In fact, such was the success of this venture that within a few short years The Bradford Exchange set up companies across Europe and Australia to satisfy the intense demand. Since then, our quest for quality collectables has expanded to include a diverse range of items available through six affiliated companies, collectively named The Bradford Exchange.
The Bradford Exchange has set new standards of excellence across the entire collectables field. Whatever your area of interest, be it plates, dolls, music boxes, tankards, teddy bears, ornaments, or accessories for your collectables display, you'll find the widest choice, the highest quality and the best value right here. We work with the most respected names in fine bone china and porcelain. Companies like Wedgwood, Royal Doulton and Capodimonte. Our experts liaise with these manufacturers and internationally renowned artists to offer you the finest collectables available today - all fully supported by the worldwide resources of The Bradford Exchange.
Until recently The Bradford Exchange was predominantly a Mail Order organisation, but always eager to explore new territory in our quest to spread the joy of collecting, you can now browse The Bradford Exchange website, where you have access to a broad range of products at the click of your mouse.
Where did it all begin It was 1895, on a cold December morning in Copenhagen, Denmark. Harald Bing, Director of porcelain house Bing & Grondahl, ordered his astonished workers to smash the mould for a small blue and white plate produced to commemorate Christmas.
In 'breaking the mould', Mr Bing limited production and so created the potential for the plate to increase in value, if demand outstripped supply. He also laid the foundations for a hobby that has since developed into a booming market - attracting the interest of millions of collectors and speculators worldwide. 'Behind the Frozen Window'
